I originally posted this to a different blog late last night after reading The Guardian’s “It’s a National Scandal” piece on mental health service users’ experiences trying to access services in the NHS. I haven’t blogged for a while, and not all of the reasons for this are mental health related, but in the aftermath of World Mental Health Day last week, it’s been weighing heavy on my mind.Obviously this is a matter on which I have a lot to say, I’ve written almost 2000 words here and still barely feel like I’ve scratched the surface.Content warning for references to suicide and self injury.

I want to make it clear that I am deeply, deeply grateful for NHS frontline workers who are doing the best they can under impossible circumstances and working conditions. I know that most genuinely want to help people and work with them…
