UPDATE: Why we made a show about mental health

Well we did it! After lots of planning, show day finally came.

Over a hundred and fifty young people with mental health problems came in the end. They came from all over: Ireland, Kent, Leeds… In fact, when I asked them before the show how many had come from outside of London, half of the hands went up. They were a wonderful, smart and brave group of people. (You can see the wonderful Humans of Free Speech that Lee, our social media producer, does before each show here)

The first question was “Can you like your mental illness?” and was set up by this film. Here’s the debate that followed:

Our next debate was,”Are doctors too quick to diagnose mental illnesses and prescribe pills?”. It’s was an interesting question because there’s still a lot of uncertainty when it comes to treatment, and the uncertainty makes it harder to combat prejudice and misunderstandings.
