A painstakingly honest and in the moment account of a my life living with Borderline Personality Disorder: both the highs & the dark moments. Plus some occasional rants on stigma, music & whatever else Beth can reflect on…
Recently I’ve been trying to stop SH and have been going through quite a stressful time and therefore have been trying to keep distracted as much as possible, but in a mindful way. I decided to start trying to do some art so bought some pens and pencils and it has worked REALLY well for me. I’ve enjoyed doing it and it’s been really helpful. I’d really recommend anyone going through any kind of difficult time do this but make sure to put no pressure on yourself and do something different from what you’ve done in the past so you won’t slip into ‘my drawings are always crap.’ I also enjoy copying pictures/photos. It may not be for you, but its worth a try just don’t judge it. If you get anything done or have already done some therapeutic kind of art, comment below because I’d love to see them!
So here are my attempts:
‘Differences in Perception’ I’m not trying to be embarrassing but this represents how complex perception is. I don’t believe any two people could see this in the same way and those differences in how we see the world and beliefs often scares me. We are surrounded by information, data, news yet we all take different things away from it.
‘Through the Looking Glass’ How I feel I’m often observed and examined from a distance, with no emotion by mental health professionals.
‘The Faces of BPD’ The intensity of emotion felt by those with mental illness can often be brutal. Conditions such as Depression, Anxiety & OCD, Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, Schizoaffective Disorder. It’s unbearably painful and often makes me want to scream. That, said not everyone with these conditions is the same and they should not be seen as this way and these different people also show that.
Thanks so for reading, let me know what you think.
